East side of town; accross from Dollar General
I regularly travel through Hulburt (not anymore) nearly 3-5 times per week. I was driving to Tahlequah from Tulsa, carefully driving the speed limit and the vehicle in front of me wanted to drive 20 mph in a 30 mph zone. The other driver could tell that I did not want to enjoy the scenery of Hulburt as much as they did and they pulled to the shoulder and waved me on to pass. I passed the suv/minivan sized vehicle while momentarily (read 3 seconds max) dipping my driver’s side tire a foot or two across the solid yellow line to avoid crowding the pulled over vehicle. Understand that this was all while still going well under the speed limit. I was pulled over by an officer that was roughly 200-300 yards in front of the passing spot on the same side of the road.
I was given a citation for illegally passing across a double yellow line (which changed to a passing zone in roughly 50 yards. A $150 ticket was presented to me by a rude and arrogant officer who appeared to be the chief of police. All in all, I will not be driving through Hulburt, nor will I be spending any money in this town again.
