Elkhorn overpass right before Cimmaron

North Las Vegas, NevadaApr 12, 20111 Comments

In the side neighborhoods (when going east of Elkhorn) and in the bus stop side area (when going west) it will usually be motorcycle cops, but occasionally a cop car, sitting and waiting for speeders. It’s 35 mph there, but since most people are going downhill or trying to force their car up the overpass they are going faster. It’s right by a middle school, and only a few miles from an elementary school, so they are usually out in the mornings when kids are walking to school, or in the afternoon/evening when kids are walking home.

Comments:
Elkhorn overpass is not right by a middle school. It is at least a mile away. The speed limit has been increased to 40 mph to alleviate the blizzard of traffic tickets, but now the Highway Patrol has moved into this neighborhood speed trap (Elkhorn has no interchange with Highway 95) but instead of policing the busy highway, the Nevada Highway Patrol has decided to put their efforts into this residential neighborhood, even though the other day, Highway 95 had suffered damage from rain and flooding and debris. The problem is that Elkhorn overpass is very steep and coming down toward Cimarron Road a driver must stand on the brakes to keep speed legal because Elkhorn road itself drops dozens of feet down to Cimarron Road. I think the Highway Patrol should be found on the highway when that highway suffered storm damage the day before and let the Las Vegas Police handle the neighborhood traffic.
