You’ll get ticketed if you are over 40, 1 mile over speed limit, and especially female or person of color. Also, in this town, you can’t get help if you spot a shooting or theft or drug problem as I have tried to call. They are just building up their retirement fund in this island town with annoying tickets.

Comments:
Alameda does enforce speed limits, but they hand out as many warnings as citations. Note that civility goes a long way. The Alameda police are also amazingly responsive to any calls with an average response time of two minutes on reported felonies.

The Alameda PD has always been a strick enforcement town. I've lived here for 25 years, which, coincedentally matches the speed limit in most of the town. The comment above is very true. The PD & FD are great on all emergency calls. And they DO solve crimes. When someone from a neighboring city is caught with drugs during a traffic stop, or is on parlole, they often go to the town and search the home, with the help of the much less efficient Oakland PD. Alameda is as safe as a community can be in these times.
