Fitchburg Road (RTE 2A)

Ayer, MassachusettsMay 29, 20021 Comments

Eastbound or westbound between the railroad tracks and the Shirley line. This is a 35, but often confuses people coming from Shirley. It changes from 45 to 35 at the town line, probably because it use to be a military airfield entrance. Watch the sign and slow to at least below 45 or you will get stopped. If you go over the tracks in the rain at more than 45 be prepared to crash, they are rubberized. The only road in Ayer that is over 40 is Littleton Road. (45)

Comments:
Yes the speed does change from 45 to 35 and then changes to 40 mph when you hit Ayer. The tracks are very slippery when wet so do becareful as it curves right at the tracks and you do slide. Sometimes going slow you still feel the slide. But I have not seen any cruiser in years at that particular section entering Ayer. I head to Fitchburg and back again on that stretch of road a lot. Very rarely they may be a cruiser by 2A auto body but very, very seldom. Just before Hannafords.
