Fountiangrove Parkway near Between Mendocino Ave and Brush Creek Rd Avenue

Santa Rosa, CaliforniaFeb 04, 20083 Comments

Fountian Grove Parkway runs through an area of Multi Million Dollar homes and is not a residental parkway. The parkway goes through a steep hilly area. On the down grades the limits are 35. trying to keep your cars at that speed on a steep downgrade is very hard to do. Cops know this and are hiding up side street to nab you. Going up the hills is no problem, you can maintain a 35 mile speed. The speed should be made to be 45mph. That is a more realistic speed.

Comments:
This road is, indeed, a speed trap, as the speed limit (35 MPH) was set arbitrarily to appease the wealthy homeowners in the immediate area. They wanted the entire road set at 25 MPH, while it was engineered to be safe for all traffic at 55 MPH. There is no traffic/speed survey, so any and all radar citations should be brought to court.

Maintaining 35 mph down that grade is not hard, you just need to approach it as a truck driver would. Most car drivers know nothing about using the braking effect of the engine to slow them down, or maybe it's something they just forget. Next time you go down that grade shift into a lower gear, keep your foot off the throttle and let the engine slow you down. If you are still on the brake too much to keep it under 35 mph shift down one more gear. Ever seen a sign that says "Trucks use low gears" on steep grades? Now you know why. If they wanted to, the cops could write 100 tickets a day on that hill for 60 mph plus and probably don't ticket anyone that isn't at least 10 mph over. I wouldn't necessarily say that's as speed trap.

This should be a 45 to 50 mph zone. As far as " it is no problem to go up hill at 35" , then it should be no problem to go down hill at 35. You just lift your right foot up off the gas and put it down on the brakes. Duh???
