From Webbers Falls to Arkansas line
I drove to Atlanta, GA in September 2002 and met five Oklahoma Highway Patrol Units in roving mode and fixed along the highway during this 40 mile stretch of I-40 between Webbers Falls and Arkansas. Oklahoma must be desperate for revenue as the enforcement was almost "Nazi-like" for this portion of the trip. It must be noted that I did not encounter enforcement of this magnitude in any other state during the trip. Since I kept the speed limit between 75-80 in the 70 mph zone I managed to avoid a citation. I have also noticed that Oklahoma also patrol its turnpikes with just as much zeal. If only they would help stranded motorists with as much enthusiasm as they do in writing citations. During this particular stretch in Oklahoma, I passed four or five motorists which were stranded alongside the highway with car trouble and not one had a trooper parked by their car offering their help. Oh well, I guess it’s a matter of priorties. Apparently, assisting motorists doesn’t bring in as much revenue as assisting stranded motorists.
