Grapevine Trail heading east out of McClure
McClure is a tiny, languishing town off of 146 in Illinois near Cape that for god knows what reason still funds a police department. On Grapevine Trail (nice wide two lane road that connects IL 146 and Tamms) heading out of McClure the trees give way to farmland and the instinct is to pick up speed. Limit is still 35 MPH despite it being easy to go 55. There is a slight curve before the train tracks heading out of town altogether and a McClure town cop often sits facing oncoming traffic before the tracks. I received a ticket here last November on my way back from Cape after being clocked 49 in a 35. Also had a break light out and could not find my insurance card in my glove compartment for some reason, which luckily the cop took pity on. Still over a $300 mistake. I make the trip from Cape to a friend’s house near Tamms fairly often (2-3 times a month), and without fail the town cops are either sitting there waiting to gather payment for village taxes, or have already pulled someone over.
