H-201 West (Moanalua Fwy – Aiea/Pearlridge exit)

Cops lasering vehicles headed west. They stand along the right side of the road, in the shade under the EB H-1 connector bridge, right after the 35 mph speed limit sign (where the H-1 loop ramp enters Moanalua). One cop is lasering; the other one steps out into the lane to flag cars over. As soon as you come around the curve, which is just before the speed limit change, they’ve got a bead on you.

Coming off the freeway lanes, there is NO notification of a speed reduction ahead. As you come around the curve, a sign says REDUCED SPEED 35…and you’re getting waved over.

Unfortunately, Section 2B-13, subsection 09, of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), which states that “A Reduced Speed Limit Ahead sign should be used to inform users of a reduced speed zone where the speed limit is being reduced by more than 10 mph….” is for Guidance only. It’s not a requirement. Good luck avoiding this.
