Highwa 231

Marianna, FloridaSep 12, 20024 Comments

As you enter Marianna city limits (we were driving from Georgia to Panama City Beach), the speed limit goes from 55, then 45, then 35, maybe even 25 (I forget). The police are sitting next to various small roadside stores/stands, hidden until you pass them. The speed limit drops so fast within such a small distance, that you have to ride your breaks from the first sign until you get to the otherside of the town. If you don’t, you’ll get tagged.

Comments:
231 Doesn't go through Marianna, it goes W. of Marianna. However, there are several speed traps in the small towns W. of Marianna on 231 to catch the people going to and from Panama and it is true that the speed goes down so fast you can't get off of cruise fast enough.

The speed trap referred to here is found at Cottondale FL. just west of Marianna on Highway 231 and his been a speed trap for at least 15 years as I have traveled that road since then and every time, the radar is set up there.

Highway 231 is differently a speed trap, I was pulled over by Officer R. Cowan from the Jackson Country Sheriff department for driving 55 in a 45 miles zone on highway 231 coming from Panama City right before Highway 2. He said that he clocked me driving 55 but he looked at his camera and it looked I was driving over 55 so he have gave me a traffic ticket and wrote on it that I was driving 64 miles. Can anyone believe this? I told him the speed limit dropped from 55 to 45 about 300 feet away and he was very polite and told me yes, but you were speeding so he wrote me the ticket. The city makes money out of these tickets since there are not too many businesses over there. Avoid driving through Jackson county by any means unless you have to pass by it, it is a warning to all fellow drivers when they pass through Jackson County, there are more Sheriffs cars than cars driving by. Good Luck
