Highway 287 twenty miles or so either direction of Clarendon

Clarendon, TexasDec 01, 20011 Comments

DPS Troopers running radar. Don’t get burned because the fine s are a major source of revenue in this rural area. Deferred Adjudication costs three times the normal fine. Clarendon is between Wichita Falls and Amarillo on Highway 287 about fifty miles east of Amarillo. Be particularly careful about dusk.

This is a very bad speed trap. I was driving 68 in a 70 mph zone with the cruise control on in my boyfriends brand new Acura. I was being extra careful not to speed as I my boyfriend had been stopped there once but only got a warning when he showed the officer his TX DL as we were in a rental with out of state tags. I saw the cruiser on the other side of the highway so although I knew I was not speeding I double checked as did my bf just to make sure. I was shocked when the cruiser came after me with his lights on. He said I was doing 78 mph I told him that was impossible as I was using my cruise control and when I saw him both of us confirmed my speed on the dash. He said I would have to take that up with the judge on my court date, which was two weeks away. As I was on vacation and I live in Houston and Claredon is over 500 miles that would be pretty much impossible. I was very upset by then and I did not want to drive anymore so my bf told the officer you have upset her so I am going to get out of the car and drive when he opened the passenger door and stepped out the officer pulled his gun on him. My bf with his hands in the air calmly explained again that as I was upset and it was his car he was going to drive. At that time the officer allowed us to exchange seats. The next day we called the court house and spoke with the judge explaining our problem and as we were going to be coming back that way the next week could we possibly set our court date earlier as coming on the date would be a hardship due to the distance and that I had to return to work. She said no I either had to show up on the date on the ticket or pay the fine. As I did not have any other choice I paid the ticket for not spending. As we were on vacation we went through several construction areas, which posted your speed as you drove by my speedometer read perfect on all of them. Also we are a middle age couple driving an SUV so the only thing that might have stood out was we were not local and that we could afford the fine.
