Highway 321

Olar, South CarolinaAug 29, 20147 Comments

I want to thank the people who reported Olar. The speed limit on Highway 321 is 55. When I saw the first 45 mph sign while heading north on 321 I throttled back to 35 and was doing about 28 at the 30 mph sign. The car ahead of me was not very lucky as they seemed to follow the posted speed limits when they reached the signs. A Black Charger pulled them over.

Comments:
I am sure the car pulled over was NOT driving the speed limit in order to get pulled. I happen to know the Olar Police Chief and he gives every violator 13 miles over the posted speed limit before he pulls you over. If speed was 30, he won't pull you until you hit 43 and if speed is 45, you have to hit 58 to get a chance to meet him. Glad you weren't the violator and this site helped make you a law abiding driver. BTW, the speed limit on Hwy 321 goes from 35 - 55, depends on where you are, and before it is said, the towns DO NOT decide on the speed limit, the STATE does according to the population and surrounding areas. Got a complaint on the speed limits, contact the SC DOT. Thank you.

Once again we here from the speed trap booster club and Olar Chamber of Commerce. The complaint is not about speed limits but the town of Olar financing their community based on people traveling on highway 321 or highway 64. A town on 271 people needs two police cars, a chief of police and officers to sit in the same two places day and night and you say it isn't a speed trap. You are a very funny person, Mr mayor.

Gee, the US average for a city with less than 10,000 people is 3.5 police per 1000 people. Olar has about 250 people with a chief and deputy, and two police cars. That puts Olar at about 8 police/1000. Looks like the citizens of Olar are well protected or it could a good old fashion speed trap to prop up the revenue stream. Just sayin, mayor, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it is probably a speed trap in Olar.

I don't know where you people are getting your information. The Town of Olar has one police officer. The town does have two police cars, but only one is used at a time. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that it makes sense to have a spare car in case one goes down. The speed limit on 321 does go from 55-45-30, however, there is also a sign prior to the 45 zones that warns drivers of the reduction in speed. The distance between the speed zones is approximately .2 miles. It would be so refreshing if adults would, for once, take responsibility for their own actions rather than find someone else to blame.

So how does a town the size of Olar and as poor as Olar afford two police cars? Certainly not off its tax base with no commercial business, high unemployment and low valued housing? That is why Olar is a SPEED TRAP!

The charger was received from a grant in 2010 from the State of SC. The other patrol is a Crown Victoria that was bought used from another agency that had dead lined it for having over 100,000 miles on it. That one has to be jump started every week just to keep it from going dead completely! There is only 1 officer so he obviously does not work 24 hours a day and surely does not park in the same place in order to "trap" law breakers. Own up to being a law breaker and pay your fine. I have never in my life seen such whiners complaining about being caught breaking the law. Grow up!!!!!!
