Highway 395 Between Crowley Lake And June Lake

Mammoth Lakes, CaliforniaOct 22, 20101 Comments

This is a major speedtrap area. Most of the CHP in the area work running KA Radar while they are driving down the highway but many times they use these small dirt turnouts in the middle of the highway (especially near Mammoth Airport) to hide out. Their cars are positioned so the roof of their car is barely visible to oncoming traffic. They do this at all times of the day, especially early mornings on Friday and late afternoons on Sundays (to catch fisherman) Use a Valentine 1 like others have posted and PAY ATTENTION to your speed.

Comments:
Yes, this is a speed trap. Southbound near Crowley Lake July 2, 2011, noted a CHP officer pulled over a northbound vehicle, and I was then pulled over just around Crowley Lake. Had a radar / laser detector that did not sound off at all. CHP used LIDAR, and by the officer's demeanor it was clear they were tagging people heavily that day / weekend. Seemed a bit smug in suggesting radar / laser detectors do not pick up their LIDAR.
