Highway 49

Harrisburg, North CarolinaOct 01, 20103 Comments

When you are driving south on Highway 49, the speed limit is 55 MPH, then as you approach Harrisburg, it goes down to 50 MPH then to 35 MPH.
When you are driving north from Charlotte, it goes from 55 MPH to 35 MPH, with no time to slow down without slamming on the brakes.
The speed limit used to be 45 MPH through then entire town. There are only businesses on this portion of Highway 49.
BE CAREFUL!

Comments:
When traveling south on Hwy 49 there is at least one warning sign indicateing the speed limit is changing and the 35 sign at the change is outlined in orange. When traveling north from Charlotte there are two warning signs indicateing that the speed limit is changing. The last warning sign states "Begin 35 1000 feet ahead". If you apply your breaks then you can slow down prior to reaching the 35 mph zone. Also for the inattentive drivers there are two 35 mph signs outlined in orange at the change point, one on the right side of the road and the other in the median. Furthermore there are nine speed limit signs throughout the town traveling north and eight speed limit signs traveling south. The speed limit has been 35 mph from Morehead Rd. to Roberta Rd for 30 years. The speed limit did change from 45 to 35 from Morehead Rd south towards Charlotte and from Roberta Rd north towards Concord 1 year ago. The change was posted in the paper and local news stations.

I feel that the ones that are complaining that the police are doing their job are also the ones that would complain no matter what. If you see the police doing their job, praise them instead of putting them down. You are paying them to enforce the laws in Harrisburg and keep the citizens safe on the roadways. Thank them for a job well done and quit complaining.

This is definitely a speed trap. There is no reason that it needs to be 35 there. There is no pedestrian traffic and the traffic flow is the same. I turned on 49 off of 485 going north. Right after the speed limit change, I stopped at Harris Teeter. When I turned out I merged with traffic and the other cars are definitely NOT going 35. I had only been that way a couple of times, so I didn't remember I was in that stretch of road. I was probably going around 50 but I was not going much faster than other traffic. The officer clocked me right before the light at Pepsi Way, before I had a chance to see a speed limit sign.
