Highway 80 between I 35 and I 10

Martindale, TexasAug 01, 20112 Comments

I am in my sixties and do not consider myself a speed violator , most of the time people pass me up on the interstate. I was surprised when the Marindale police car coming in the opposite direction pulled me over in the middle of heavy traffic. This was on a short strip of two lane highway, going downhill! The officer M. Caldwell ,as in the same county, said i was traveling 73 in a 55 Zone , I know i immediately looked at my speedometer as some as the lights on his car went on, it was a very narrow strip of highway and I saw 61mph. This officer would not respond re providing a radar report to me, I believe this defines a true speed trap. This can affect the local economy with tourist from Texas passing this route going to the hill country.

Comments:
The State of Texas has a law that only a certain percentage of a town's revenue can come from traffic violations. This was put into place because it was recognized by the legislature that there were too many small towns operating as speed traps. Martindale has been caught by auditors violating this law and now the state is fining them for their violation. They apparently owe the state hundreds of thousands of dollars in penalties.
