highway 82 east about 12 miles from tifton

small hill at each end, sits on side of road and has you for about 1 mile both ways.Gets you before you hit town, speed is 55 then drops to 45 in less than 100Fortbe careful!

Comments:
The speed limit does not drop less than 100 feet past the 55 mph sign. The speed limit is clearly marked 55mph between Tifton Ga. to Enigma (east bound) where the sign clearly reads speed zone ahead. The speed drops to 45 mph with large warning signs. The same for traveling west from Alapaha Ga. on U S 82 towards Enigma. Get your facts straight. The city allows 10 mph over the posted limit (55/45 mph) per state statue Ga. traffic code 40-14-8. (a) No county, city, or campus officer shall be allowed to make a case based on the use of any speed detection device, unless the speed of the vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit by more than ten miles per hour and no conviction shall be had thereon unless such speed is more than ten miles per hour above the posted speed limit. (b) The limitations contained in subsection (a) of this Code section shall not apply in properly marked school zones one hour before, during, and one hour after the normal hours of school operation, in properly marked historic districts, and in properly marked residential zones. For purposes of this chapter, thoroughfares with speed limits of 35 miles per hour or more shall not be considered residential districts. For purposes of this Code section, the term 'historic district' means a historic district as defined in paragraph (5) of Code Section 44-10-22 and which is listed on the Georgia Register of Historic Places or as defined by ordinance adopted pursuant to a local constitutional amendment.

Gets you before you get into town. " Really!!!!" Let's start with the eastbound traffic. The Officer sits about one half mile from the 45 mph sign. There is a incline before you reach that Officer. So how can that officer hit you before you come into town. On the westbound traffic there is another smaller incline and they hit you when you come up the incline by the way it;s about a half mile too. It is your fault not theirs if you are breaking the law. And by the way any officer working Traffic is NOT your friend so don't expect them to be all warm and fuzzy. They have to be professional and firm.

This is most definitely one of the old type speed traps we had years ago in Georgia. I myself got a ticket here going 59 in a 45. The signs are all fairly close together, by the time I was pulled over it went from 55 to 45, then 45 to 55 and then 55 to 65. I was actually out of the city limits when he wrote the ticket. Enigma is a small town that has no industrial base for taxing. The city hall is in an old wore out building with no parking. The local bank is drive through only and the Post Office across the street has no parking either. You just park somewhere and hope the cop does not come by. I was told there was only one cop in town, that made me wonder how they could afford a high priced laser device for speeders? The locals at the 2 small convenience stores in town all say they are known locally as a speed trap. This place shouldn't even be an incorporated city. This is how they make their money but it a shame they do that. I paid up, $169 which is twice the rate but I don't plan on going back through there for quite some time. If you go through here just be careful.
