Highway 98 (14 miles of public highway between Port St Joe and Panama City)

Tyndall, FloridaAug 28, 20024 Comments

The military police have jurisdiction over this stretch of public highway and do their best to control the speed. Don’t think that just because you are entering a military reservation that you will not end up with a US ticket.

Yup...no doubt a speed trap...Tyndall now has GS/civilan cops patrolling. The Sky Cops are busy guarding the gates...These newly hired GS pigs are PRICKS! They ticketed my daughter (who was decending down the eastbound side of the Dupont) around 60...yes 15mph over....but they sit at the bottom of the bridge with their little radar guns and pop you once you crest the top of the bridge...You don't even get a chance to slow down...they own you even on the bridge...be careful on the Tyndall 500...you will get run over if you go 45mph...especially on the bridge! 75.00 bucks later

Yes, they are everywhere on Tyndall, but I am glad. Thanks Tyndall for slowing people down!

I love when the rightous make the police sound like the bad guys for doing their job. Speed traps are created by folks exercising their right to do whatever they want, when they want to do it. Slow down, I have never been stopped for doing the speed limit.

Even if you are doing 45 at the top of the Dupont, you will probably be doing more than fifty by the time you reach the bottom of the bridge at the Tyndall AFB boundary where the SPs and AETC rent-a-cops have juristiction. Here's the kicker. If you have other infractions (my proof of insurance ID card was more than six months old), you'll either have to pay the fine or appear in Federal Court! I was very surprised by the number of folks there to appear because the sky cops were board on the day of their misfortune. Most had to travel from out of state, presumably because they were denied a change of venue. One last item of interest. They will ask for your social security number. There is absolutely no consequence if you refuse to provide it. Everything they need is on your driver's license. The good news is the judge is reasonable. He dismissed my case when I provided proof I had insurance at the time I was ticketed.
