Huron River Drive near Warrington Drive

Ann Arbor, MichiganFeb 06, 20081 Comments

Cops in car or van sit behind bushes at one of three semi-circular cutoffs off north side shoulder. 7 to 8AM and 4 to 5PM are favorite times to run this trap. Watch out, cops run front and back radar antennas. This stretch of Huron River Dr. has very few access points and according to new state law (which Ann Arbor will not obey), a more lawful speed would probably be 45 MPH.

Complain to the Michigan State Police about Ann Arbor’s low speed limits throughout the city, kept that way for one reason — $$$$. If ticketed, take it to court with a good lawyer and cite the city’s refusal to post realistic speed limits accoring to new state law.

Comments:
The speed limits in Ann Arbor are irrelevant. The speed limit on Washtenaw was raised to 45 according to state law, so they changed the timing of the lights. The effective speed in Ann Arbor is ~25mph no matter where you are. The Downtown Development Authority likes the traffic-light-imposed jams downtown, because they think people stopped in traffic are looking at the businesses, ignoring the fact that anyone who doesn't have to be downtown, won't go there because of the mess.
