Hwy 171

Anacoco, LouisianaMay 20, 20101 Comments

Tthe local police, that I have voted for, sit in my front yard which i welcome, to enforce the 55 mph speed limit. This helps protect those of us, and our families that live on this busy highway. If you go over the speed limit you will get a ticket. Please slow down and enjoy your short stay in Anacoco

Comments:
First and foremost, you do not vote on the Police Officers in Anacoco, secondly, the nearest house off 171 is 100 yards off the highway, scientifically speaking, you would have to be going very fast to be able to hit your property. The other side of the road is blocked by a railroad track in which a vehicle would not come over and hit your home or anything else. The speed limit through the town is 45 MPH, then coming out of the town it inclines to 55MPH and then nearly out of the town it hits 65 MPH. I received a ticket in the 55 MPH zone 30 feet prior to the speed limit changing to 65 MPH. I was told I was clocked going 69 in a 55. I firmly believe otherwise because I had my cruise control set to 60. The towns Mayor has been historically known not to show mercy on those speeding. However, the town population rarely peeks at 500, most speeders end up paying the fines. Despite the traffic laws, it's really up to the officer to enforce the speed limits. As a former Police Officer, I gave a leeway of nearly 10 MPH due to speedometers in vehicles not being certified. The real beef should lie with the officers who want to give out these menial citations. It's sad because for every traffic stop, it prevents real protection from other more serious crimes from occuring.
