Hwy 199 traveling S. E. at the outskirts of Azle

Azle, TexasOct 09, 20102 Comments

At this point 199 is under construction but no work has been done for nearly a year. Traffic is diverted to a nice two lane (so-called) service road, where Azle cops are almost always lurking. I have traveled in 48 states and believe this stretch of road can easily & safely handle 50-55 MPH but is slowed to 40 MPH for many miles. Just last week they moved in road machinery & are starting to continue construction. However, at no point does the construction equipment need to cross or impare traffic on the acess road.

Comments:
The speed limit is 4OMPH, based on actual signage, not "easy and safe". A consortium of residents and businesses has asked police to patrol area in response to traffic regularly doing 60MPH and above. There is a preschool in this stretch, too. A list is also being compiled, called "Do Not Do Business with", and businesses who have confirmed radar readings of 50MPH and above with one of their vehicles is added to the list. I understand that there are nearly 200 businesses that businesses in the area will not trade with, as a result of speeding. Just beware.

The roadway passes by businesses and residents as close as 11 feet. It is impossible to get in and out of driveways if motorists are traveling at highway speeds. TX. DOT has declared that the roadway is "exactly like the city of Lake Worth", which also has a speed limit of 40MPH as well.
