Hwy 36 east, just past the traffic circle in Downtown Abita

Police usually wait near the circle

Comments:
Just got a ticket on Level Street just west of Pine Street. School zone speed there is 15 miles per hour. I had slowed to what I thought was a school zone speed of 25, as soon as I saw the 25 mile per hour speed limit sign, but apparently, according to the cop, I was in a 15 mile per hour speed limit zone. I have seen this officer hidden on Hwy 59, and on Level many times. This is very obviously a speed trap. Scared to see what the cost of this ticket will be, and he said I couldn't take traffic school!

The entire city including outskirts is a "speed trap". The St. Tammany Sheriff's boyz are looking for any excuse to write tickets. If ticketed, one has to appear at the Abita Town Hall and be judged by a "lawyer" - not even a judge. It is a money racket for the city. I used to trade there, and even go to church there, but not anymore. If I have to go through Abita Springs, I go 5 miles under the speed limit and do not give the hi sheriff a chance to write me up and charge me for any kind of traffic violation. I hope everyone stops trading there and avoids the town entirely. Maybe they will get the message!!
