Hwy 46 from Hwy. 70 to the redlight at the Bank of Dickson.

This is a short 1/2 to 1 mile section of road where the speed limit is 30mph. The rest of this road is 40 mph. There is no change in the traffic patterns or roadway, it is all 4 lane with a turning lane. So why the change in speed limit if this is not a speed trap? The Dickson police officers frequently patrol this area and tend to sit off the roadway just past the sonic in a parking lot with radar pointed toward the oncoming traffic. Dickson also has a speed trap on the 70 Bypass in front of the Co-op store. Speed limit is 35 and the police love to sit in this area and ticket those going over the speed limit.

Comments:
The hwy speed limit at the co-op is 45 mph. The major entrance/exit from the Dickson County High School intersects hwy 70 bypass less than 1/4 mi east of the co-op. The speed limit changes from 35 to 45 just past the entrance to the high school westbound. The speed limit used to be 55 mph then was dropped to 35 then raised to 45 on this stretch. Obviously I live near Dickson. The stretch of hwy 46 between the railroad tracks north of I-40 and the area adjacent to Lowes has a 45mph speed limit and a lot of tickets are issued there because there is a long downhill stretch going each way and almost everybody goes too fast.

Since the original 'speed trap' was listed and described in 2003, the speed limits have changed some. The stretch of Hwy. 46 from Hwy. 70 Bypass to College St. is still 30 mph. From there to Beasley St. (the main turn to from the Dickson Post Office and the Walmart is now 35 mph. From there south to beyond the I-40 interchange it's 45 mph. College St. east, away from downtown Dickson is 40 mph past the hospital and Capt. D's.

Dickson's not too bad. They *do* do crackdowns from time to time and it seems like if you see one set of flashing lights, you'll see more a couple of times down the road. 46 should really be 50 (maybe 55) except at the truck stop but there's not much excuse for speeding up down the hill. Those who do annoy those of us who maintain a steady speed.
