Hwy 49 East on East side of City Limits

Dover, TennesseeMar 23, 20101 Comments

Coming into Dover from the east on Hwy 49, the speed limit suddenly drops on this rural section of roadway from 55 to 35 for no apparent reason other than you are entering the city limits. There is one small speed limit sign on a curve that’s real easy to miss. They patrol this road with radar constantly and if they get you, it will cost you no less than $80.00

Yes it is, I live in the area and go through the town once a month. The city makes it's money from unsuspecting folk. Now that the construction is going on the new highway 79 and even though parts of it are complete and the posted speed limit should be 70 mph it is posted at 45 even on weekends when no one is working. Also the stretch past Dover to Kentucky Lake should be 70 mpg but is posted at 55. Doesn't make sense. Example Highway 22 going to Huntington Tn is not as good a road and is it is posted 65 in most areas. I hope the Tennessee Department of Safety will be fair and post the speed limit at least 70 on the new highway 79 when it is completed. Watch out for those Tennessee Troopers, there is at least 3 working that area all the time. I went through there the weekend of 20 Feb 2011 and saw 2 State Troopers, One City Policeman, and One Sherriff working a 5 mile area. Recommend you avoid Dover, it is a speed trap by definition of the public.
