Hwy 79

Paris, TennesseeOct 30, 20023 Comments

State Troopers work the four lane between the cities of Paris and Dover, Tennessee moderately heavy. The roadway is fairly flat and the troopers will generally nail speeders who are in the opposing lane of traffic. Troopers will sometimes lay low in the median late at night just outside of Paris heading towards the bridge. Activity picks up considerably during the summer months during tourist season.

Comments:
There is a speed trap going into and out of Dover between Paris and Dover just outside of Dover. 95% of the time I have gone from Paris to Dover or Dover to Paris, I have seen this trap going down the hill towards the Tennessee River at Fort Donalson. There is always a highway patrolman writing tickets. It is hard to keep your car at the speed they have without braking. A definite speed trap and money maker for Stewart County TN.

HWY 79 The sheriff dept. & THP set around Paris landing were the speed limit goes from 55 mph to 45 mph by Blue & gray Marine. Also they run HWY 79 from Paris to Paris landing on weekends late at night to watch the night clubs. They watch a 5 mile strech of hwy 119 that goes north to the KY TN state line at night so watch your drinking.

These are only speed traps if you're speeding. If you're doing the speed limit and not wandering all over the road, than you're not going to get into trouble. Our police are professionals here Highway 79 is posted at 65 mph and that should be adequate for everyone except emergency vehicles. Hwy 79 does drop from 55 to 45 mph as you approach the bridge at Paris Landing and that's because there's a lot of traffic there both at the intersection of rt 119 and at the state park entrances where lots of people are pulling boats onto the highway. That's why there is a brake pedal in your car! It's a lot better than activating the air bag!
