When you are coming through Yale at night I would drive the speed limit 35. When you are coming into town eastbound, he sits under the hill on the southside of the road where the speed limit goes to 35. You can only see him if your going west. He also sits at the gas station just below the hill. When you are going on the highway past downtown, he sits at this old gas station by the high school geting speeders coming west. TRAP! Then he sits at the dairy hut blacked out and at the park. When you are going through town beware of a chevy caprice black and white sitting in the alleys by the high school and the storage buildings. If you drive through here beware of the cop sitting in the parking lots, alleys, gas stations, driveways, on the shoulder or between houses. Believe me. Drive 35 or you will be stopped.

Our grandaughter recently went thru Yale, OK to get to Stillwater. She received a ticket for speeding. The officer told her that you cannot speedup to go 45 mph unless you are just past that paticular sign. I would like to know where he gets this information. We live in Tulsa, OK. I have seen cops speed up in every town that we have ever traveled thru before they get to that sign. Where is a law that says you have to wait until you are past that sign before you can go that speed? We have never been stopped before for that rule. In fact, we have not been stopped at all for speeding but I don't understand this policeman's rule. I do not remember a rule in my driver's manual that says anything about waiting until you get past that sign before you can speed up to go 45 mph or any speed limit. I see people every day and policeman go 45 mph or any other speed limit just as they look and see the new speed limit. They don't wait till they are past it. Please comment and if anyone knows about this rule with OHP or any local city rules going thru that town, please let me know where we can find it before she has to pay her ticket. Where would we fight this ticket at to prove this is a rediculous rule. Are these speed limits set by the local towns or by OHP/state rules or what? I think this is the most rediculous thing when other policeman do the same thing and speed up as they see the sign themselves. I have seen it. Who makes the speed limit rules as to when you can speed up in that town? Please advise as to the speed traps and the rules he quotes..

At what point does the speed limit come into effect once you see the sign or after? As a general policy, the local authorities may have adopted their own standards that define the answer to this question. However, many places simply draw an imaginary line across the road from the location of the sign and use that as the division between the two different speed zones. Therefore, the speed limit should go into effect after you see the sign and at the point where you pass the sign. Feel free to slow down a bit early, but not to speed up a bit early. So basically, just because you can see/read a sign, that sign is not in effect until you actually pass it.
