I-295 near mile marker 9

Hopewell, VirginiaMay 15, 20126 Comments

the sherriffs office only pulls people doing 81 miles an hour or higher which is 11 MPHs over the posted speed if you call this a speed trap because people are BREAKING the law then you were probably one of them. By the way there have been several accidents in this area some with deaths, also one person pulled over drew a pistol and started shooting at the deputy and NO I am not with the sherriffs office

Comments:
Yes, you are correct. If you are speeding then you are breaking the law and yes, my wife was one of them yesterday. Here is my thing with this trap. If it is to save lives then why can you hire and attorney and they can have it dropped to broken taillight. That is like a murderer going from 1st degree murder charge to shoplifting. Give me a break this one is for making money and making money only. I will be starting a website to encourage travelers to boycot Hopewell. Do not by gas, do not eat and do not sleep in a hotel in Hopewell. Lets see how the businesses will support this fundraising effort of the hopewell sheriffs office.

First if you are not with the sheriffs office then you sure sound like you are and whether you are or not you are sorely misinformed. I may not be in law enforcement but I have educated myself on this issue and as a resident it sickens me. The city could use these deputies patrolling the city and help reduce crime and help with public safety. I mean that is there mandate right. First the hopewell sheriffs office is not the primary policing agency in the city of hopewell the Police department is and they do a great job. The sheriffs office run the court and do process service. The stint that falls in hopewell is around .6 of a mile and they run 4 cars on that stretch both northbound and southbound 7 days a week. They even employ part time deputies to accomplish this speed trap. That is not public safety that is policing for profit plain and simple. That would be why the General Assembly addressed the issue this year and cut back on the money that sheriffs in Virginia can keep from these type of operations. It is funny that people in hopewell say that if you are not good enough to be a Virginia Trooper you can get hired by the hopewell sheriffs office and try and act like one.

This is defiantly a speed trap dick head . Ever hear the name MILLION DOLLAR MILE? That would be the 1mile strip on 295 in Hopewell. If this isn't a speed trap there isn't such a thing.

It is defiantly a speed trap? Who are they defying dick head? You've educated yourself on this issue? I guess that means you Googled it and read a few blogs. The sheriffs that they use to operate the radar on this section of highway generate enough revenue to pay for themselves as well as other officers so if you want to use them to reduce crime then you suddenly can't afford them anymore. Lastly I seriously doubt that someone who can't spell "buy" could start a web site and if you're going to ask someone to "boycott" then maybe you should "buy" a dictionary....one with pictures. Oh, and maybe you should all proofread or at least spell check the crap you write before you hit the submit button.

Yeah, these are some REALLY sneaky cops!!! I see them sit on the shoulder in marked cars, in the daylight!! Sarcasm off....Seriously, why is this called a speed trap? By their own admission, they dont write anything under 80. The speed limit along here is 70. They make no attempt to hide themselves. They just sit on the shoulder and wait(not very long) for the next volunteer. Read thru the court cases on Hopewell's website. It is shocking how many tickets are for 90+ mph.

That's a lie. I was doing 74mph and was pulled over claiming I was clocked coming around the bend doing 85mph. When the officer pulled me over he didn't even tell me why he pulled me over, he just asked for my driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance for the vehicle. When I asked him why he was giving me a ticket he looked perplexed and stumbled over his words saying uuuuh, oooh, Who said I was giving you a ticket. Then in the same sentence said, Uh well yeah I'm giving you a ticket. I clocked you coming around the bend going 85mph. I cussed his ass out. Then he changed the story and said, Well if you would have stopped talking, I clocked you coming around the bend at 83mph. Which one? Both are a lie. Stop taking up for these bastards. They know damn well what they are doing. They know when you get into court, it's all a scam. The judge is going to side with the officer. Does my word count for nothing?
