I-65 N between exit 117 and the Kentucky State Line

(September 2002) I encountered this little trap on my way to Michigan up I-65, late on a Saturday afternoon, in heavy traffic. (We had all been stuck at an hour long slowdown in a construction zone without construction just north of Nashville.) I was going around 78 mph to get past a heavy cluster of traffic in the right lane, and an eighteen wheeler was riding my bumper all the way. The Valentine One went off as we started down a steep and rocky incline. The THP patrol car was using short-burst Ka band radar. By the time I got the signal, and saw the cop, it was too late. So, I moved into the right lane and prepared to pull over. Instead of chasing me, the cop went after the sports car and the truck that were still speeding (in the left lane) and pulled them over. Since I was now flowing with slower traffic, and the cop never pulled behind me, I kept going. A mile or so later, I crossed the state line. I did not meet the cop coming back the following Wednesday – And I was ready for him. My recommendation for this area is to get in the right lane, do no more than the 65 mph that’s posted, and hope none of the natives rear-end you.
