Just as get in front of the Tennessee Welcome Center, traveling north or south, is not the time to check your speed because the city of East Ridge Police Department has a new little friend, the trusty laser speed gun. So be aware and check up before entering this area.
After reading about crime and crime related incidencies in the city of East Ridge, TN I can tell you these guys need to pull there head out of you nowhere. As a former police officer in both Alabama and Tennessee this is a speed trap.

Both East Ridge, TN and Red Bank, TN have been known to rely heavily on vehicle ticketing revenue and have been considered speed traps for over 50 years.
Forty years ago Red Bank, TN use to infamously have a 29 MPH speed limit through the main street of the town and would write speeding tickets for anyone doing any MPH over this 29 MPH limit.
East Ridge, TN, being on the border of TN and GA, has, for many years, targeted out of area plated vehicles for extra scrutiny. In East Ridges defense in the last decade it has deluged with a seedy crowd of transients.
