I-95 Going Southbound Past Whitemarsh Blvd.

Baltimore, MarylandApr 17, 20101 Comments

I was driving around 9:00 PM on I-95, just past the Essex/Towson Exits (about 2 miles), going southbound on I-95 towards the FT McHenry tunnel when I passed the new I-95 construction area. As a bright strobe type of light flashed in front of me in the speed lane is when I noticed the automatic speed camera trap signs.
The speed drops from 65 to 50mph and they have a double fine because of the work going on. Even though no work is going on in the evening this auto camera still goes on to bring in the extra revenue for the State. Be careful through that area. This happened yesterday. I don’t know yet if the driver in front of me got hit or my car got hit by the camera.

Comments:
They have become more sophisticated, and mobile. They now mount this camera in a van that moves every day, it is run by the Maryland Transportation Authority, not the State Police. It was raining hard the day they tagged me, and there was not a single person working that day. I was in the morning rush and was on my way to the BWI airport and the flow of traffic was all moving the same, but I got a ticket in the mail a few days later when I got home, charged with doing 67/55. The fine is $40 with no points and no entry on your driving record. If you want a court hearing you have to travel nearly 100 miles away, or pay the fine. A private corporation runs these cameras and splits with the state, though a MTA officer has signed the complaint attesting that this is a true record, etc. Wish I had thought of this first - buying a camera, computer and vehicle for the privilege of collecting $20 on just about every vehicle that drives by on I-95. What a deal.
