I-96 mile marker 115-116
There are two key ongoing enforcement points on I-96 near the mile marker 115-116 area (just West of the Williamston exit).
TRAP 1 –
There is a paved emergency vehicle cross-over at about 115 that is frequented by Michigan State Police (MSP) and Ingham County Sherriffs (ICS). Marked MSP cruisers use medium to low power instant-on K band guns when dark, and occasionally uses LIDAR during the daylight hours. Marked ICS cruisers use a mix of full-power K, Ka, and medium power instant K.
This spot is used all year, and any time of day. Both directions of travel are monitored from this point.
TRAP 2 –
There is a non-exiting overpass at about the 116 mile marker. The trees have been cut away from the overpass on both sides, giving patrol vehicles a grass "cross-over" on both the East and West sides of the overpass. The remaining trees do an excellent job of hiding patrol vehicles, most often found monitoring West-bound traffic from the West side of the of the overpass.
This spot is only used when the ground is dry. It isn’t used at all during the winter, or near a rainfall. It is used mainly by the MSP with the same equipment mentioned above.
COURT –
The jurisdictional court is 55th District Court of Ingham County, Michigan (located in Mason). Magistrate will often "plea-down" non-reckless speeding (twenty mph or less over limit), much stricter on other offences.
