I57 Mile Marker 20, Pulaski Co., IL

Mound City, IllinoisJul 08, 201510 Comments

On 6/12/2015 was pulled over (2nd car of three) at mile marker 20 on I57 in Pulaski Co, IL. Was cited for speeding in construction zone 74/55. No lane reductions, no warning signs, no flashing lights, no reduction in speed sign. Nothing indicating a legal construction zone according to IDOT standards. All we noticed was 3 barrels in median by overpass support posts. Under contact 78319, District 9, the construction zone that was coming was to run from the 17th to the 27th mile marker. On 6/12/2015 there was a construction zone about 2 -3 miles north of this site but not at the 20 mile marker. This was confirmed by the IDOT that this construction area was sit up in two sections. We would like to hear comments from people who traveled through there before and after 6/12/2015 when it was not a construction site. We know that on 6/29/2015 the construction zone had legally been sit up as a construction zone with the cross over in place at mile marker 20 where sheriff was sitting. We feel that probably hundreds of people have been caught in this county fabrication. Just an avenue to provide revenue to the county by the sheriff’s department.

Comments:
My family was driving through there as well on that exact date, June 12th, 2015, when my dad got pulled over for speeding in a construction zone. The sheriff told us that he had to show up in court on July 21st, 2015 for going 23 mph over the 55 mph of the construction site. We live about 8 hours from Mound City that's in Pulaski County and the cop didn't even give us an option to pay for the ticket even though we asked.

Our court date is scheduled for 7/21/15 also. I talked to an attorney and was told that either I could represent myself or he would represent me for $250. If he represented me I would not be in court. What I was told would happen is that I will be offered a deal where I pay $640 and the plea will be changed to malfunctioning equipment and therefore my records will not reflect any points lost. Just pay and move on. There is an ATM in the basement of the courthouse or there is a bank in town for convenience. How about that! Do you have the time that the ticket was written for your father? Did your father recall it being in a constructs zone? We are looking for anyone who might have taken some pictures of the site. We were told by the District 9 engineer that the cops were not even supposed to be in their construction zone if it was a construction zone.

I was also shamelessly pulled over in early June. I will see you all there on July 21. Can't wait to throw money to this undeserving county and get on with my life.

So if you pay $640, you will not have to drive all the way to Pulaski? Yet, you have to go to pay the attorney and the representation? My dad's time is 9 am on July 21st and I found this site because I wanted to check out where Mound City was since I had been asleep until the "pulling over" incident woke me up. Both of my parents told me that my dad was just about exiting the construction zone and therefore gradually started raising the speed on our truck and that's when the cop pulled him over.

My impression is that you contact the lawyer and make arrangements to pay him, then you do not have to make the long drive back to IL. I'm sure they have ways for the payment to be made electronically. When I was talking to him he told me that if he represented me then I was not to appear in court. Possibly he has arrangements with the court to send direct payments electronically to the courthouse. With the way the county operates, that's a assumption.

I think I talked to the same guy that you mentioned. His name is Ed Dorsey. I talked to a few others and one would charge 400 and another 250, but just for the representation. Anyway, thanks and do you know if the District 9 engineer will check into why the cops were in their construction zone even if they weren't supposed to be there?

I ran into the same situation. Yes, Ed Dorsey was the one I talked with. I talked with another group and they wanted 400. We are arguing that we were NOT in a construction zone. That is our point. No one wants to provide you with documentation. However, if you file a Freedom of Information Act request they have to respond to your request. Did you decide to go with a lawyer rather than drive back to IL? We will be driving back. Five hr drive for us. Our court hearing is for Tues morning at 9:00. I am expecting that there will be a lot of us there on that day. Apparently the cops have been very busy providing revenue for Pulaski Co.

Did the group offer to take the ticket's points off of the record though? If so, then what group was it and/or what was the number because my dad already has 2 points for a ticket that he got in my town earlier in the year of 2014, and he just wants this ticket to not show up on his record. We just decided to get represented, not go, and move on. Mostly because my mom and dad both want the ticket off of my dad's record like I explained, plus we don't want to drive the 8 hours. Yes, I have read many comments on here from past years that many people have been getting tickets on that area. My mom got a ticket around there about 5 or 6 years ago when we were driving to Mexico too.

If the group that you said wanted $400 to take the ticket off, then please post a contact number so that I can just give them my dad's case and tell Ed not to represent, thank you.
