Intersection of Hwy 40 East and Hwy 55

Trois-Rivières, QuebecFeb 18, 20110 Comments

As Highway 40 eastbound approaches Trois-Rivieres, there is a road sign that indicates "the end" of Highway 40 (you have to either exit left or right onto highway 55). This sign states "3 km" until the obligatory exit. A lot of drivers, thinking that there couldn’t possibly be any cops patrolling the remaining 3 km of highway 40, will accelerate before the exit — and right where the Trois-Rivieres/Shawinigan split is, you’ll often come across an SQ car (I’ve seen both marked and unmarked) parked directly on the painted center divider lines of the split AND facing oncoming traffic. During high traffic periods, such as weekends and/or holidays, the bogey will be accompanied by a couple of marked chase cars on both northbound AND southbound Highway 55 ramps, making sure that no matter which side you exit Highway 40, you’re equally screwed.
