Comments:
This area is prime for a number of reasons. License plate camera vehicles are often left sitting here, and you will be surveilled and photograhed as you go by. Not sure what they are doing with the information, but just be aware. If you look to be Hispanic, you will be specifically targeted, as this is one of the primary smuggling routes for drugs and illegals between Texas and Florida. Drug busts are frequent and there is much illegal activity passing through. Not a pleasant area to be during the nighttime hours, broken down on the side of the highway or otherwise. Certain times of day are worst, as there are surges of truck traffic that leave from Houston and other cities at the start of the business day, and the cross-surges hit Louisiana together at the same time as Baton Rouge afternoon rush hour is getting cranked up. Speed enforcement doesn't seem to be that much worse or better than anywhere else on I-12, but it is a frequent area for saturation. The overall problem is that I-12 is a dangerous two lane, under-engineered for the amount of traffic it carries. It is a chokepoint highway for stuff moving between Texas and Florida, as well as notorious Texan drivers who are used to going 80. It is not necessarily the fault of Louisiana, which just happens to be caught in the middle, but there are an incredible number of drivers on I-12 who sit in the left lane and refuse to yield to anyone.
