Interstate 20 near Mile Marker 126-132

Birmingham, AlabamaJul 19, 20081 Comments

I-20 (both E & W bound) between exit 132 and exit 126 (I-459) has a posted speed limit of 60 MPH but the landscape is rural and the tendancy is to go normal Interstate speed of 70+. The limit drops from 70 to 60 just past the I-459 exit but is typically ignored by Westbound I-20 drivers – of couse the local constabulary and the Ala State Troopers are always there to guide and direct the wayward drivers. Comments:
I am personally aware that no traffic study was made prior to setting the 60mph speed limit in this section. It was simply designated as 60mph using I-459 as the point where the apeed limit changes to 70mph. The correct change point should be closer to Eastwood Mall area. The subject section is definitely a speed trap.
