Interstate 45

Beautiful short new county road. Best road I’ve seen in the South (I’m not exagerating.) "Construction Zone" is posted as you leave Interstate 45. I saw no speed limit posted. There was no evidence of construction. It looked like a 55 mph open highway. eventually, just over the top of a small hill there is a sudden 45 mph sign! I slammed on my brakes. Just ahead of the sign, a police car was carefully parked with his all white behind pointed to traffic. Could have been any car. When he pulled me over he was very nice. After he went back to his vehicle for "instructions", he came back more rigid. The fine(s) approached $1000. He said 70mph in a 45mph zone(not true), Therefore reckless driving, No proof of Insurance. (I had just bought a new car which was insured with an insurance company who told me the papers I had were proof of insurance. ) All doubled because I was in a construction zone. My First ticket in over 30 years.
I soon heard stories from Louisiana citizens about this town being notorious. They told me their sad stories.
I consider this gross entrapment and I think towns that employ these methods should be identified as "criminal towns". I would be embarassed to live in a town like this. If I were a police officer in the town I would be ashamed of myself. If it was in my county I would fight to get it fixed. If it was in my state, I’d blush at tourist ads for the beauty of my area.
