Interstate 45 near Bridge that goes into Galveston Island

Galveston, TexasJun 28, 20042 Comments

If you’ve driven to Galveston you should know this. Right before the big bridge that goes over the bay and gets you onto Galveston Island the speed limit goes from 65 MPH to 50 MPH. It’s crazy! I got a ticket late at night from a Sheriff that was just crusing the area. I was paced at 66 in a 50 (although I was going much faster before I saw him). But anway, they will also sit on the shoulders with radar so watch out!

Comments:
This was a construction zone for a long time (and still is in early 2010), so the cops were trying to make people slow down to protect the workers. The road is so snakey in that area that you SHOULD slow down, for YOUR OWN safety, if nothing else. It would be easy to skid in the rain, because of the way the road changes directions so many times. The construction is mostly complete now, and the bridge (cause way) speed limit is now either 60 or 65, and its 4 lanes wide each way. the approach from the north is 65 & ther approach from the island is 50, so you should be OK now.

Yes, construction "workers" work in the middle of the night. Yeah, right.
