Coburg, OregonMay 25, 20071 Comments

Local Coburg law enforcement officers will sit on the interstate that runs near the town. Enforcement is usually a motorcycle officer sitting under the overpass at exit 199 but could be located anywhere between m.p. 198 to m.p. 201

It is legal for them to do this... Several years ago Oregon State Legislature passed a bill (dubbed the "Coburg Bill"), to prevent municipalities from citing motorists on land outside of the city limits... such as Coburg and Interstate 5. Another bill was introduced a couple of years later to cap the amount of revenue that cities could generate through speed traps- "Backers of Senate Bill 1074 said it was regrettable but necessary, considering that Coburg has continued to rely upon... (ticketing)... despite 2003 legislation meant to rein in what critics consider Oregon's most notorious I-5 speed trap (Eugene Register-Guard 6/28/2005). More recently, Coburg has gained some media attention for moderating their enthusiasm for lightening the wallets of I-5 motorists- "Noted speed trap cleans up its act" (Associated Press 1/1/2008).
