Location is at the Homeland Security checkpoint at the High Peaks Reception Rest Area. Since the checkpoint is not always manned, motorists do not know if they should really be preparing to stop especially if cars ahead are not seen to be stopping or slowing down. The speed limit signs are sparse; as a result there was a serious accident there recently where folks were killed. As a result, instead of making the checkpoint safer, troopers are doing increased enforcement on those even slightly above the speed limit to the tune of $200 per pop.
