Island of Oahu
Beware Visitors! Essentially the entire island is a speed trap. The speed limits are usually posted, but will be 15-25mph slower than you may be used to. Speed limits on State Highways are usually 35mph! Some places it goes up to 45mph, that is the highest, and some places it’s as low as 25mph. The speed limits on the Interstate (Ha Ha) Highway (Freeways) system are also very low. The most recent H-3 freeway has one stretch that’s 60mph (that’s the highest on the island), the rest is 45 or 35. The H-2 has some stretches that are 55mph, but is mostly 45 or 50. The H-1 again has some stretches that are 55mph, but can drop for no apparent reason to 50, 45 or even 35mph. I guess if your on vacation, it’s not so bad, but for local commuters, it’s a nightmare. If you follow the speed limits, with no traffic hold ups, it will take about 30 minutes to go 10 miles.
