Just north of town past the 50 mph. sign

Wells, TexasMar 16, 20103 Comments

The speed limit increases to 50 mph. just north of town but stays at that rate long past where you would expect it to start climbing. Traffic gets tired of waiting and increases and that is where the cruiser sits and collects its bounty. He sits within sight of the sign that increases the speed to 70 mph. DON"T increase speed until you have passed that sign or you are dead meat. Remember, this is their bread and butter, poor town, no industry….. lots of gullible drivers!!

Yes I got busted for 70 in a 50 comming into town, I was tired and not watching the road very well, The cop was very nice as he wrote the ticket and it was my fault. NIce thing is I saw he and all the cops got fired. I still paid them though $151. Now when I drive to Houston I never go short cuts through small towns. Never drive outside of freeways and never shop in these small towns. Sure we get tickets on the freeways but never go or shop in these places. Thats funny they fired all the cops around 01/15/2011, Must of had there hands in the cookie jar ill bet

How does this make the City of Wells a speed trap? The Texas Highway Dept sets the speed limit & the signs for Texas roadways. The law in Texas is that he highway speed does not change when you see the sign it changes after you have passed the sign. If you speed you break the law and you should receive a citation for that. It is the driver’s responsibility to watch for road signs; if you do not watch the signs then you are not being a responsible driver. When you drive you should not be so impatient that you have to break the speed limit to get were you are going. As for the comment on the police force being fired for “hands in the cookie jar"...having all the facts could make your comment so much more accurate. The police force consists of one man. That man did not follow policy after being warned several times. The City decided to save itself money and have the county sheriff patrol the town until the municipal court clerk could collect the half a million dollars worth of citations that the violators had received in this town but decided that they were not obligated to pay. Just because the police officer was fired does not make your citation go away. It still has to be paid.

Pay attention to your surroundings! All traffic signs in the State of Texas say the exact same thing. Take responsibility for your actions, if you speed expect to get a ticket. If you do not get stopped this time you will get stopped eventually. TxDot sets the speed limit signs and the speed limit on all highways, you getting a ticket doesn't make it a speed trap.
