Just outside Tuberville on Hwy 378

Tuberville is a small town which has extended the 35 mph speed limit well outside of town. We were pulled over today east of town within sight of the 55mph sign by an unmarked car for going 52 mph in the 35 mph zone. I suspect that they are only pulling over out of state tags, since we were not the fastest car on the road. We had just commented on the prosperous look of the town. We have to send in almost $400 or come back to Tuberville for a court date. This has to be a speed trap expertly set up by the city government to make money. Be very aware of the speed signs around Tuberville. Common sense will be costly.

My experience was almost identical to yours. My wife and I were on our way to Myrtle Beach for a weekend vacation that we'd saved up for. We weren't the fastest car on the road either and were going well below any speed that would be reasonable for the conditions. Who drives at "parking lot" speeds on a four lane highway in good weather and light traffic? I was shocked to see a truck speeding up behind us at breakneck speeds and I changed lanes quickly to let the speeder by. To my shock the driver changed into my lane and I grabbed my wifes hand and asked her to brace for a collision as I thought the driver was crazy and was planning to ram us. Then the lights came on and I pulled over in surprise. The officer wrote us up with a claim of 51 in a 35 and the ticket is marked $388.00. My wife was in tears because we can't afford BOTH the ticket and the vacation. After a long days drive, and less than two hours from Myrtle beach we had no choice but to turn around and drive back home. My wife was crushed and I am going to fight the ticket in court.
