Kerens, TX Hwy 31 (inside city limits – near 200 block)
The Kerens, TX municipal police department has set-up a speed trap on Hwy 31 inside city limits (at or near 200 block). The speed drops quickly from 45 miles an hour to 35 miles an hour and returns to 45 miles an hour. There is approximately 2-3 blocks that the speed is 35 miles an hour.
The police officer who stopped me clearly was disinterested in my inquiries regarding the exact location of the 35 mile an hour speed limit sign, whether it was evident that I had purposely reduced my speed (actual speed 43…he ticketed me at 45) and was meeting the intent of safe operation of my vehicle although I was unknowingly exceeding the speed limit, and whether Kerens Chamber of Commerce would be pleased with the reputation of a “speed trap city”.
The officer failed to provide me information on the fine schedule, contact information for addressing the citation, or other information to assist me with the citation.
I have contacted the Kerens Chamber of Commerce and notified the director that I would no longer patronize any business within the city limits. The excessive starting fine for speeding is $197 with $2 per mile addition over the speed limit.
