Kingsland Boulevard

Officer sits here regularly to catch you at this ridiculous speedtrap. The speed limit on Kingsland is 40 mph eastbound from the Grand Parkway to a little street called Pickford Drive. There are 2 consecutive 40 MPH signs on this route to lull you off your guard. Without warning, a small speed limit sign changes this 4-lane boulevard to a 30 MPH speed trap. At 6AM when I travel this route, I have seen him 5 times this month. There are no visible (or invisibile, for that matter) landmarks which seem to coincide with this ridiculously low speed. It is clearly designed to be a speed trap. Immediately after passing Mason Road, 6 tenths of a mile later, the 40 MPH speed limit resumes. I was going 41 and he had the nerve to tell me to slow it down”. Did I mention Ridiculous? :^)”””

Comments:
This isn't a speed trap. True the cop sits in the pool parking lot (or in between the median sometimes). I have lived in West Memorial all my life (I am 43 now) and this drop in speed from 40 to 30 has been there since about 1978. Way before the grand pkwy was even built. The reason it is there is because there is a swimming pool between Pickford (the mentioned road) and Promenade. The pool is open to swim team in April and on weekends in May. the swim season closes at the end of September. There is also a park next to the pools and various events held at th ecivic center. People often park on the street if there is no room in the parking lot. Also the 30 mph sign is the same size as the 40mph sign and give you plenty of time to slow it down. You usually wil not get pulled over if you are doing 35ish.
