LaGrange Road from 55th to Burlington

La Grange, IllinoisMay 31, 20031 Comments

This stretch is absolutely ridiculous. Granted there are houses on each side of the street, but it is two lanes in each direction, and there are sidewalks for pedestrians, and the speed limit is posted at 25. It is easily safe to go 35 during rush hour, and probably 40-45 in low-traffic times (late night). The cops here are SUPER STRICT. These houses are usually pretty big with large plots of land, and many have fences or hedges which block visibility of the sidestreets where the police will wait, and if they catch you going more than 2 or 3 over you’ll get a ticket. North of 47th street the speed limit actually goes DOWN to 20 before you cross the tracks. This is more or less a commercial section and the police will wait in parking lots hidden by buildings, and again, very strict, although they’ll usually give you 5 over…which is still only 25 when it would be safe to go 30 in high traffic, and 40 late at night.

Comments:
I actually agree with the speed trap here. The police are not forgiving and that is great. I live on this stretch and the speed limit is so low because it is residential. Just as the speed limit is 25 in interior LaGrange, it should also be low for those living on "the road". Remember there are kids in this area. People who live in these houses don't want to listen to traffic passing by 30-40 mph. % mph makes a huge difference in the amount of noise! It is much easier to enjoy the downtown area when cars aren't speeding by:)
