Lincoln Tunnel approach ramp (just befor helix)

Weehawken, New JerseyFeb 16, 20033 Comments

This one is really nasty. On the straight stretch of 495 which preceeds the helix the speed drops from 50MPH. During a nornal weekday at 8AM the traffic on this ramp is so bad that you would never exceed the posted speed limit of 35MPH. Unforunatly I had to go into New York City on the day after Thanksgiving which would normally be a crowded Friday morning but traffic was light due to the holiday. As you approach the helix just after the Park Avenue exit there is
an entrance ramp on the right hand side, this is where the Port Authority cop holds a hand held radar gun. When you travel down the helix and approach the tolls there are half a dozen PA cop just waiting to write everyone a ticket.
Now the day after Thanksgiving only comes once a year but I would not be surprised to see this one on a weekend morning or even during the off hours in the middle of the day or even late at night.

Comments:
I live in Weehawken actually around da corner from the speed bump your referring to and I also caught a ticket on that speed trap located on County Rd 677 (BS JFK Blvd E). I also agree their just is no way one can do the speed limit in which is a ridiculous 25mph. But as I do my homework online I cant find the speed limit on 677 I can see all other speed limits but that one. I dont think that sign is right. I am trying to get the engineering study that sanctioned such a low speed limit. Hopefully something will be done about this I understand if they have the speed limit on certain times like rush hour because its crazy at that time but late night come on. Not to mention their is only one sign in the middle of the block and that lane is usually full of buses so how is one suppose to even see the sign???? If anyone is interested on helping me fight this needed fight comment on this post please...

I am interested in knowing if the engineering study on Boulevard East before the entrance to the LIncoln Tunnel has been received. The 25mph speed limit is truly low. If anyone has any more information on this or any demands by the public to contest the veracity of the danger that driving above that limit poses, as well as the boon to the municipality that these violations provide, please let me know. I am all for safe driving. However, utilizing safety as a decoy for subsidizing a municipality is un-American. a concerned citizen

Yes there are speed limit signs posted just before the helix reading 35 MPH - how ridiculous and a real money maker. Who goes 35 on a 3 lane road/highway late a night when there are hardly any cars on the road. The officer made it sound as though he clocked me way sooner than the entrance ramp that you mention above. I thought he meant he caught me a Kennedy Blvd. But you may be right.
