Located on US 1 three miles south of I-16

Oak Park, GeorgiaNov 09, 20103 Comments

Speed drops from 55 to 35 in very short distance. Oak Park is a small town out in the middle of nowhere. It is obvious that traffic tickets are major source of revenue.

Comments:
This is still there. Speed starts at 45 and drops to 35 after going around a curve. No speed zone ahead signs. No reduce speed ahead signs. 35 limit is for only or less than 1/4 mile, then returns to 45. This is clearly speed trap. Officer sits and scans you right when you hit the 35 speed limit sign.

The speed trap is obviously a way for a very small community to make money. The officer is local. His badge reads "Oak Park Police". He sits and waits for a car to leave the 45 mph speed limit and hit the 35mph area. This 35mph area is only a short distance before the speed changes back to 45. It is defintely a trap, and we got ticketed this week. We will make a special effort to go another route to Savannah from now on. There are three other routes, so Oak Park can be taken off the map and no one would know the difference.

I got a ticket for going 19mph over. No question that it is a speed trap. It's the 1st town you come to after exiting off I-16 so you are still driving fast and the speed limit drops to 35mph very quickly. The local police officer sat in the car for 10mins before he ever got out. He could've cared less if somebody in my family was dying or having a kid. When he finally exited his car he already had the ticket filled out. All he wanted me to do was sign. Then you have to go online or call an 1-800 number to find out how much your ticket is which takes 7-14 days to post. I will never pass through this town again or spend another dime there.
