Long Island Expressway near Exit Number 72
State trooper sits on the east bound side of the expressway behind the sign for exit 72. When you come over the hill around the bend, he has you before you ever see him. As we all know, the severely low speed limit on the expressway of 55 mph is nothing more than a money making scam for the state. Don’t let them line their pockets with any more of your hard earned money!

This speed trap has been in existence for a long time, and I recently got a speeding ticket on this strip of the LIE near exit 72, a state trooper hiding in the sidelines apparently out of nowhere. The situation is dangerous as several pull-overs where happening all at once. Some motorists were pulling off to the left? Idk why... nerves probably. I could not even stay focused on the officers statements due to all the surrounding sirens etc. The state trooper then informs me "Don't worry mam'e when you get to court they will knock it down to just "a parking ticket" because you have a clean license. OK not so bad I think, so when the court date comes off I go to pay my dues. My traffic court experience was horrific. I was treated like a piece of cattle. The DA did not even make eye contact with me and would not explain anything to me. Nothing went as the officer said it would. Community service and a hefty fine was thrown at me, no inquiry, no explanations nothing. So question is how does the public fight these sped traps? What can be done. Anyone? Im all in. !! Oh yeah and the fact that I am 53 years old with no criminal or previous traffic infractions apparently means nothing. Yes, its all about $$$.
