Main Street — From State Hwy. 361 South Toward the Navy Base

Officers regularly patrol this area, which has a 30 mph speed limit. Also, beware of the school zone, those fines are outrageous.

Comments:
This one, 361 into main street south, does not fit the criteria of Speed Trap. It is a 30 mph zone leading to a 45 mph zone. 4 lanes, left turn lane, 2 lights and one curve. No bushes or structures for police cars to hide behind. Very well marked and above all-it is a school zone. Morning traffic is very fast with little police prescence until the school speed limit times arrive. Evening traffic is very lively. Two major marine fab yards contribute the vast majority of speeders. I speak with authority and knowledge as I myself have driven it many times. The local police could write tickets by the hundreds if they choose to. If you get stopped here, it is because you are flagrantly speeding! Highway 361 west is a bit different. 40 mph to 55 mph, a long and gentle curve leading to a long straightaway, 60 mph and all divided highway. You are out of town into ranchland and fields and have a tendency to come out of the curve exceeding the 55 limit by about 7 to 10 mph. The local p.d. often has a unit patrolling there and he does good business. Watch the signs!!
