Maine Street from 11th street to 36th street

For the first-time visitor to Quincy Illinois, you are now warned!
Between the hours of 7 AM to 4:30 PM while schools are in session the 25 blocks of Maine street between 11th and 36th streets, the speed limit changes up, down, up, down from 30 to 20 mph through at least three school zones and six traffic light crossings. These school zones have speed indicators with cameras.
The school zones actually begins 60 feet in front of the camera location, and you are unknowingly already inside the kill zone of the camera, and the school zone, when it activates with less than three car lengths to get down from 30 to 20 mph without causing a chain reaction car pileup behind you.
These cameras can get you coming to or going away from the camera location.
If you happen to get your picture taken and get a notice in the mail, it is a mandatory appearance in court with a $150 fine and court costs.
Don’t get me wrong, I am all for school safety. My wife drove a bus for over 25 years. But the way these zone areas are constructed and with the locations of all the schools in a residential are, the speed limit through the entire 25 blocks should be 20 miles an hour.
That is why I nominate it a speed trap!
