McCrory Lane traveling from Poplar Creek to I-40

Bellevue, TennesseeJan 24, 20116 Comments

Metro’s favorite spot is at the bottom of the hill as you round the slight bend about half way to I40. The speed limit is 40 even though it’s quite safe to go 55. Unfortunately, I have made many drivers angry at me when I do 40MPH because it is so obviously too low of a limit.

Comments:
Cop is a really nice piece of work that sits in the shadows at the bottom of the hill on his motorcycle just waiting to get anyone that goes by. He really enjoys his job too. He likes to sit by the stone / rock selling place. I think it's called Hutton Stone. IT is a very bad place to get caught speeding. 1st off it a road connecting two fast paced hwy's and an interstate. 2nd the speed limit is lower than you would expect (40 mph). 3rd the cops like to sit at the bottom of a sloping hill in the shadows. 4th the cop just stands in the road and points at a pull over spot sometimes to 3 or 4 drivers at a time.

Just got my first ticket ever - right here at this spot. I am 27 and have never got a ticket before. Cop is not friendly and is obviously just trying to hit a quota. Hope someone can do something about this spot. Either increase the speed limit, put more signs up, or just don't let a cop sit at the bottom of a hill and write tickets 5 at a time.

cruisng down a hill will always be a favorite place to set up radar. i think though the comments are totally wrong about the speed limit for this road. casual passer-bys most likely have not seen some of the bad wrecks on this road. i have seen many as i live in the area. the road is hilly with many blind curves. besides all the cars trying to pull out onto this road, there is also a lot of wildlife in the area which causes wrecks. the area is also very wooded, there have been wrecks just because of downed trees. the reason why the cops set up at the bottom of that hill, especially now, is because of that new sud-division halfway down that hill. there have been several major wrecks at the entrance of that sub-division involing cars flying down that hill. to make matters worse, there are kids standing at that entrance as well waiting for school buses. while some straight sections of mccrory may could be raised to 45, anything over 40 would be unsafe for the rest of it. i hate radar setups as much as the next person, but this road has all the hazards: cut-in traffic, blind curves, wildlife, downed trees and even fog when no other roads in the area has any. sorry, i have to disagree that the speed limit needs to be higher.

cruisng down a hill part 2: i forgot to mention that there is a major construction project coming to mccrory lane. it is part of the improvement project that will be completed in the next couple years. a lot of mccrory lane will be improved/re-routed. hopefully, the road improvement will come all the down and cover the new sub-division section/radar setup section. what i find strange is the fact that when the sub-division project started, they installed a turning lane going up the hill turning into the sub-division. the dangerous part is coming down the hill. that's where it was really needed.

There is a residence with a gated driveway which is the first residence that you pass on the right on McCrory Lane coming from Interstate 40. It is just over a hill, and is on your right, right before you get to Covenant Baptist Church. I worked as a driver helper with UPS, and we delivered to that residence. The driver told me that that driveway is a favorite hideout for cops.

Also watch for metro cops on McCrory Lane NORTH of interstate 40. They like to hide in the parking lot of the small business just north of the Harpeth River bridge. This is just across the road from the entrance to Hidden Lake State Park.
