McDonald Drive near Princeton Boulevard

Lawrence, KansasMar 04, 20082 Comments

There is generally a cop hiding out in the Holiday Inn parking lot behind some bushes. Sometimes there may be a cop standing there with a radar gun, pulling people over.

The police are trained to enforce traffic laws. The main reason for police running radar is not to write tickets and get money for the city. It is to slow people down and reduce accidents. If you did get a ticket maybe next time you will open your eyes and drive the speed limit. Don't blame the police blame yourself.

This has been a speed trap in past years because there was no 35 mph sign on McDonald Drive. McDonald drive come off of highway 59 north at 6th street in Lawrence and the lack of a speed limit sign combined with this artery leading to the turnpike entrance for people going to work in KC or Topeka made it a productive money maker for the city. I presume that someone contested a ticket based on the lack of a speed limit sign so a sign was erected and traffic slowed down. I rarely see the police in this location anymore when in past years it was very very frequent. I was ticketed here once as the 4th of four cars when the first car saw the trap and hit the brakes as did cars 2 and 3 which left me for the radar gun. However this could have been a multi-car accident.
